1. The 14 Major Stars, at a Glance
Every Zi Wei Dou Shu chart is built from a base set of 14 major stars: Zi Wei, Tian Ji, Tai Yang, Wu Qu, Tian Tong, Lian Zhen, Tian Fu, Tai Yin, Tan Lang, Ju Men, Tian Xiang, Tian Liang, Qi Sha, and Po Jun. Each carries a fixed elemental nature and personality signature — see the dedicated page for each star (linked below) for how to zi wei dou shu stars interpret in depth.
2. Stars Combine, They Don't Just Stack
Two or more major stars often share a single palace — for example Wu Qu and Tian Xiang, or Lian Zhen and Tian Fu. When this happens, the combination reads as a distinct personality type, not simply "both meanings added together." This is one of the more advanced parts of purple star astrology stars interpretation and takes practice to internalize.
3. Minor and Adjective Stars Add Nuance
Beyond the 14 majors, dozens of minor stars (like Zuo Fu, You Bi, Wen Chang, Wen Qu) and adjective stars add texture to a placement — softening a harsh major star, or adding romantic/social color via the "peach blossom" stars. The calculator displays these alongside the majors in every palace.
4. Reading Stars in the Palaces
The same star means something different in each of the 12 palaces — Tian Ji in the Spouse Palace describes a partnership defined by conversation and change, while Tian Ji in the Career Palace favors consulting or analytical work. This zi wei dou shu stars in the palaces approach is the core reading skill: see each star's dedicated page for its meaning across the palaces most commonly asked about.
